Karice Enterprises Ltd. a leading manufacture of lighting fixtures was commissioned to build a custom light fixture. Certain lighting components needed can’t always be found in the marketplace, so we decided to make our own. Featured here is our most recent creation, a custom light fixture, utilizing a custom brass swivel designed and manufactured by the team here at Karice Enterprises. This swivel is not only elegant, but offers a large range of motion, and was made with an internal locking mechanism to lock it into position.

Karice was contracted by Earls to make this huge custom chandelier for their new location in Miami, Florida, U.S.A. Jenn Hoffbeck of the Earls design team came to Karice with the design concept intended for the new location in Miami. The light is huge at 24 feet x 12 feet in size. It is constructed with an aluminum canopy system that Karice has designed to suspended multiple lighting configurations for commercial spaces such as the installation in Miami. In all, twelve modular canopies were designed and crafted for the restaurant. The canopies were finished in a white color, so as to blend in with the white ceiling. Aluminum tubing was used in the project to suspend 156 pendants. The pendants had custom domed caps attached to the socket covers. Candelabra sockets were used for this project and G16.5, 15 watt bulbs lit up the space over the dining area of the restaurant.  The aluminum wire chases and pendant lights were finished in a matte black powder coat.

Using large scaled aluminum tubing, wire chases were created to suspend the multiple lights. 156 individual pendants were suspended on three different levels, cascading down to create an installation height of almost 10 feet. The wiring of the light was a a challenge. In the end a system was engineered to wire 39 lights into 3 ceiling canopies.

Shipping this huge light from Vancouver to Miami was an enormous hurdle. Custom crates containing tiered steps had to be designed by team Karice to ensure a safe journey to travel across the North American continent. Once the product arrived in Miami, and special night time delivery had to be arranged to off load the three large shipping crates using a crane. Project manager Kirsten Bray, was relieved to have the installation completed.

Thanks to the Earls Design Team for their ever innovative ideas and concepts.

New Replica Custom lighting design –  Vintage lights are recreated with a revised design for the Artizia fashion boutiques across North America.

Aritzia approached us to replicate a light fixture they had brought over from Europe. Not only did they want us to reproduce it,  they also wanted us to add an additional tier to the light.   The original light consisted of two lighting layers,  the new light required 3 lighting layers.   This affected the overall design of the light.  The new light was much taller and wider in shape.

Conceptual designs were first drafted in AutoCAD.  Once approved, Karice went to work to craft the new light.  The new light had fifteen candelabra bulbs. Special custom candle holders were created for the chandeliers.  Each candle holder had a custom machined finial that was attached to the underside of the candle cup.  The lights were finished in a matte black finish.  Once wired up, the lights were UL Certified for the destined homes in various locations in the US chain for this classy clothing store.

Challenges along the way included sourcing the material for this project.  It required 3/8″ square tubing.  This size tubing was not available in Canada.  Luckily, we are close to border, and the correct tubing was sourced from a supplier in Seattle, WA.

Another challenge in the project was the glass.  Our glass blower had custom moulds made to achieve the bulbous shapes.  This ensured that all lights were made with identical glass for the fourteen lights that were crafted and shipped across Artizia’s North American chain.    Glass medallions were also made for this project.  Using our CNC milling machine, unique “STAMP” shapes were created so that an impression could be stamped into the hot molten glass.  Aritzia was very happy with the finished custom chandelier, which can be seen in many of their retail stores across North America.
